Public Book of Remembrance

You are about to make an entry into a Public Book of Remembrance where you are able to leave a message and light a candle for your loved ones. However, if you have recently lost a loved one - or wish to leave a message for family, friends or neighbours who have recently lost a loved one - you may prefer to make your entry in their own Private Book Of Remembrance.

To check whether a Private Book of Remembrance has been opened you can either click on the Books of Remembrance link in the left hand panel above and browse the listing of activated Books or use our Search Website facility. Entering the surname only will enhance your search results. When a Book is returned its status is indicated by a small book icon - a red cross indicates that you are unable to make any entries until the Book Owner, usually the family member responsible for the funeral arrangements, has activated the Book.

PLEASE CHECK CAREFULLY THAT THE ENTRY YOU MAKE IS IN THE APPROPRIATE BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE.

BRAVE journalist Adrian Sudbury died early today.

The 27-year-old Examiner reporter - who had fought a courageous battle against leukaemia and waged a campaign for education about bone marrow donation - passed away with his family beside him at their home in Nottinghamshire.

Sudbury had battled the disease for almost two years but a bone marrow transplant was sadly rejected by his body.

Remembrance Day

This is a Book of Remembrance that has been specially commissioned by the Huddersfield Daily Examiner to commemorate Remembrance Day in memory of all those who died in the two World Wars and all subsequent wars and conflicts. Each year, at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we will remember them.

Once known as Armistice Day it was renamed Remembrance Day after the Second World War but of course to many of us it is simply known as Poppy Day. November is poppy month, the time of the year when by the wearing of a simple emblem, a red poppy, we salute the memory of those who sacrificed their health, their strength, even their lives, that we might live in a free country.

If you would like to leave a message in memory of those who died, please do so. Any proceeds from the lighting of candles will be donated to the Royal British Legion, the UK's leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served or are currently serving in the Armed Forces, and their dependants

If you wish to view further tributes and photographs please click and play our Remembrance Day Album.
